TOP 3 REASONS - WHY ASK FOR SUGAR FLOWERS?

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

Are you confused about whether you should use fresh flowers or sugar flowers for your wedding or special celebration cake? If the answer is “yes”, then this blog is for you.

Don't get me wrong, I love fresh, but there are so many benefits when choosing sugar flowers that fresh simply doesn't offer.

If you've ever dabbled with the idea of making your own sugar flowers, you will quickly realise that it takes a lot of time, effort and patience to make them, especially if you're not experienced. You may also share the same concerns that some of my customers do when deciding what to use.

In this blog, I've listed the top 3 reasons why sugar flowers are such a delight to have on your wedding or special celebration cake or indeed, to give as a gift to someone very special.

REASON 1: THEY CAN BE AN EVERLASTING MEMORY OF YOUR SPECIAL DAY

Although some of my customers worry that sugar flowers are the hardest to keep, if you follow some simple rules, you could have an everlasting memory of your special day. Here's some quick tips on storage:

  • DO Keep them cool, dry, and away from dust - preferably covered in a breathable cardboard box, such as a cake box.

  • DON'T subject them to extreme temperatures. For instance, keeping them in the garage is not recommended where temperatures can fluctuate.

  • DON'T put them in the fridge. Once removed, they will sweat and any colour will run. They may also take on odours from other food and this isn't a hygienic storage option.

  • DON'T store them in the kitchen as, again, they may take on odours from cooking and perhaps spices should they be kept in the same area.

  • DON'T put them on the windowsill as they will fade and could melt if exposed to direct sunlight.

  • DO store your topper straight away.

REASON 2: THEY CAN BE EASILY WORKED INTO YOUR BUDGET

The price of sugar flowers doesn't have to be high. If your cake designer can work with a variety of sugar mediums, as Fond of Cakes does, they can be easily worked into your budget. For example:

  • Flower toppers made with flowerpaste or wafer paper don't have to be larger than life or over complicated. They can instead be tailored to suit you. For instance, a spray of flowers can be made into a simple single stem with a few sprigs of leaves or some branches. This creates an altogether minimalist design and also significantly lowers the price overall.

  • Wafer paper flowers are a fraction of the cost and also take less time to create, which makes them an ideal alternative to flowerpaste. They are also less likely to break!

REASON 3: THEY ARE AVAILABLE ALL YEAR ROUND

Sugar flowers can be made to order and that means there's no limits when it comes to design. You can have that display you've always wanted in that flower shop window, you can have your mother's flower that means so much to her, and you can have exactly what you want - any time of the year!

AND THAT'S NOT ALL...

Sugar flowers offer versatility, realism and lasting memories; the only restriction is the imagination.
